“Captain Rex In Return Of The Jedi – Star Wars Explained”

I’ve come to love the character Captain Rex from the Star Wars universe. A main character in both The Clone Wars and Rebels, this clone of Jango Fett is a very complex and interesting character.

Anyways, the idea that he survived from the Cline Wars to the end of Return of the Jedi.

Auto-Play Emails: My Bane On The Web

Reading “With Autoplay On, Turkey Assassination Video Shocks Twitter” reminded me of one of the things I’ve hated on the web for ages: auto-play email.

Now, what I’ve long loathed is the simple nuisance of the videos blaring audio. What’s even better is when a site has multiple-autoplay videos on their site (like a news article and an ad). The noise and caucaphony drives me bats.

Now, though, here’s another, more powerful reason to end this practice. You’re scrolling through your Facebook or Twitter feed and your hit with a murder. There’s nothing more crass or brutal to just stumble upon.

If good taste nor good, thoughtful design won’t get the powers-that-be to end this practice, perhaps getting dinged with PTSD suits will.

End auto-play videos: it’s good for us all.

God help me, a snowy day in Seattle

Today’s schedule had plenty of driving. As snow started falling, I felt the normal dread Seattlites feel regarding snow. This region is pretty daft when snow falls and I can’t figure it out.
Some elements make sense. We have significant sized hills, and lots of them. The weather patterns around here make the snow structurally different. I get it.

However, we get a light dusting of snow. Snow that flowed with the wind, not packing onto a slick bundle of icy nuisance.

And otherwise sane people become simply daft.
This afternoon had two particularly memorable moments.  First I saw a car stop in the middle of a highway in order to turn right into a parking lot. This is middle lane of three lanes going south. With a long line of cars stopped behind, staring in bafflement. Then there was the car that, on a highway, pulled halfway onto a sidewalk/halfway in the right lane, while they stared at a cellphone. With other baffled drivers stuck behind this nonsense.

These were the most egregious ones today. It was nerve-wracking driving with the buffoonified masses. Some days male me understand the desire to be a snowbird.

Careers, Changes and Moving Forward

I’m proud to announce that I’ve accepted an offer with the great folks at Eagle Country construction. I’ll still be in the real estate sector, but I’ll be managing permitting on new construction. A significantly different role. I’m quite excited by the possibilities, but it’s bittersweet.

I’ve worked for C&K for over half a decade. During this time, I’ve learned so very much about business, real estate, marketing, social media and branding. I’ve learned the critical importance of CRM tools, and connection. And I’ve had the opportunity to learn so very much more about Snohomish County, where I’ve spent the majority of my life. C&K is a great team doing really exciting work, and leaving this group is sad, to say the least. Eagle County falls under the Keller Williams umbrella, so I won’t be going far. And, from a commute perspective, I’m literally only moving 2 blocks south.

The opportunities moving forward are quite exciting, and I’m looking forward to learning a new element of the real estate sector, while also putting my project management and technical skills towards helping another company move forward.

So, onwards, as it were.

I recommend you watch “A Strong Mind” on YouTube

This video features Ashima Shiraishi, an amazing young rock climber out of New York. It’s really exciting to see people so young grab hold of a dream, making it happen. Of course, supportive parents help immeasurably. Her dad, who gets screen time, looks like someone I’d enjoying having coffee with. Which is about as high a compliment as I have.

Thoughts On Nike Hill in Bothell

I originally posted this on March 5, 2015 at my site Not Just Seattle

This morning I drove out to Bothell from Lynnwood. As I hate the freeways, especially in the morning, I back-roaded it out there. Passing a number of construction sites out there didn’t surprise me. This area is quite high in demand, as it’s really the furthermost north end the East-side. One thing in particular stood out: some houses  on Vine Road with fencing around them.

I first remember seeing these decades ago. These looked just like all the military housing I’d grew up around. At first that seemed strange, then I learned about Nike Hill. Named after the missile silo not-so-secretly placed on the summit of the hill, I believed the housing was originally for those soldiers. They were built in in 1950, right around the time the silo first came online. Also, the street (technically 216th Pl SW) is Nike Manor Rd. So, viola!

Now, the buildings are owned by the Navy, so my guess is that they were housing sailors stationed with the Everett Homeport. Today, fenced off and vacant, I wondered if they’d been sold to private developers, but they still show as owned by the LLC that the Navy set up to manage properties in the region. So, perhaps they’re going to upgrade these. As they’re pretty much unchanged from the 1950s, that should be rather welcome.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing what’s to come there.

Sidebar: Here’s an interesting article about the site, and how it became the FEMA regional headquarters it is now.
