Thoughts on Yearly Goals and Resolutions

A blogger I respect, Pooja with Life’s Fine Whine, posted a few days ago a review of 2025: How Many Of My 20025 Goals Did I Keep? For most of my blogging tenure, I have not posted such things. The closest I can find is this one, from 2015, “Growing Healthier“, where I express my concern with my weight (Follow Up: I was successful with getting my weight down 20 lbs, though I recognize that I have more work to do).

With that, I’m wondering if I might find some value in doing so. For instance, have any of you found the public accountability helpful? How many of you have posted either your yearly plans or an evaluation of your year’s results per plan? I do make plans and evaluate things, so creating a post would be relatively easy.

Anyway, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

  1. You talked about the types of courses you wanted to do and flagged when you completed them. That less formal/ low key declaration of intent, monitoring and celebration of achievement makes sense to me for personal blogging.

As for wishing to publish a plan, I occasionally think about publishing the summary from the last marketing plan that I wrote for State Bank Victoria, not because of its strategic content, but because the summary has 26 paragraphs, commencing at A and progressing to Z.
I wrote it under unusual circumstances (the imminent collapse of the bank due to a rogue clique of managers in the commercial arm of the bank lending out the retail book without telling anyone in retail management) at four in the morning, choosing the alpha method to help me concentrate/ stay awake.
I am not revealing how I tackled X, Y & Z here, but the tactic worked beautifully to grab and hold the attention of every Executive.

All the best for 2026, Carl.

  2. Thanks so much for the mention. Personally, I’ve found sharing them online has helped hold me accountable plus I can look back every month and stay one track. Maybe give it a try this year?
