A Meditation This Memorial Day

Please remember why

So many giving their lives

Bird song on marble

As a young man, I was quite proud of my decision to join the Navy. No plans for great and noble sacrifice. My future was what mattered; potential, possibility. There were thoughts of glory, but not of sacrifice.

I’m sobered as I remember my youth. The naivete. The impulsiveness. The reckless spirit. The commitment to my friends. A child in so many ways, carrying amazing responsibility. I held the keys to horror. Mistakes could mean anguish and death for my friends, my crew, those I loved, and for countless innocents.

I’ve seen the face of parents who’ve lost their children. Of wives who lost their husbands. The promise of youth shattered to pieces. That leaves a horrible swath of destruction within hearts.

I consider all of this as I look upon this day and it’s symbolism. There’s so much we have yet to learn.

Where will I find home?

Seeking the place where the mountains meet the sky

Where water rises to my feet and the sun warms

My bare feet resting wrapped in the sand

A Haiku As I Listen To Music This Evening

Such tranquil music
Carrying my soul skyward
Glorious nighttime

May you might be restful and you awake rejuvenated.

Your mind is your strength

My mind is my strength
It is all I can control
The root of my soul

Blossoms from Buds

Standing in sunlight
Buds changing into blossoms
Spring’s evolution

The sun is up. It’s time to change the world!

The sun is now up
It’s time to change the world
You are important

There’s so much work to be done to make this world kinder, just and equitable.

Germs are creeping up on me this evening

Sitting in darkness
Dreams crowding my awareness
My germs arguing

Yeah, I’m feeling germs creeping up. Coughing. Sigh.

Hopefully, a good night’s rest will reset me.

Why do villains laugh?

Something I’ve wondred.
Why do villains always laugh?
A puzzling thing

A Restless Night

Dreaming I’m awake
My own mind is sadistic
Now dawn approaches

Not feeling too well rested today. Ugh!

Happy Friday, everyone.
