June 4, 2020: Reflexes of Pain

human reflexes

to inflict pain upon those

we believe hurt us

A cycle of destruction that threatens to consume us all.

The Digital Mind

Light and colors dance
Within the digital mind
Silicon children

Defining “Vermin”

Why do we loathe such
These creatures that adapt well
To our wastefulness

Squirrels, rats, myriad insects, and so many other creatures that have adapted well to living in the shadow of humanity. These we loathe, finding beauty in those struggling to find a place in the world we’re rapidly changing.

Violence Bets Violence

A message from the bishop of my Synod in response to the recent horror in Las Vegas :

Violence begets violence.
Peace begets peace!
We must be about peace.
+ Bishop Kirby Unti

I found this a perfectly poetical statement, and a powerful part of his email introducing this letter.

The Same Sun

Journeys near and far
We always see the same sun
Human connection

A Memorial Day Haiku

In Flanders fields
Amidst poppies and lark song
Lie our lost lessons

Today

We walked into the cafe

An older couple entered

Through my held door
Hand in hand

Talking to friends

Amidst the youth

And their frantic keystrokes

Lost to the now
Rain’s changing

Drippy drizzle

To wind blown torrent

And the light moving

Across the sky
Puddles forming upon

Untended tables

Unbounded by fear, embraced by love

Brutality free,
Humanity unbounded
Potential released

Inhuman Humanity

This is puzzling:
Why it is humanity
That’s most inhuman?
