Yesterday was the Longest Night

photo of city under cloudy sky

Some random stats as I think about the apex of our night-life for my community just north of Seattle. Your mileage may vary.

  • Sunrise was at 7:55am
  • Sunset at 4:18 pm
  • Therefore we had 8.38 hours of sunlight
    • That’s 35% of the day with daylight
    • And, therefore 65% of the day was night
    • 15.62 hours of darkness!

Fortunately, slowly, slowly, the days will start lengthening. And another year begins.

Sunlight’s Travels

sunlight’s travels

an amazing journey

born from a star

Happy Saturday my friends.

This Evening’s Haiku

gravity’s demand
even the sun can’t resist
calmness comes with night

A sunny spring evening haiku

As the daylight falls

And its moving through the trees

Springtime marches on

Walking in Suburbia

Walking in sunshine

Just below these powerlines

Life in the suburbs

An annoyance on the day: sunburn

Serious precautions

I am deeply frustrated

For I’m still sunburned

Daylight’s Motion

Daylight moves slowly

Gently across the park’s grass

Dew disappearing

This Sunlit Sunday

Walking upon the shore

Sunlight landing upon my face

My skin warm, nicely so

Friend talk, warmed hearts

And children yet again taller

Than a moment ago

Evoking parental wonder, and triggering

Eternal frustration for children

The Same Sun

Journeys near and far
We always see the same sun
Human connection

Summer’s Sunlight

Summer’s flowers bloom
This season of bursting life
The sun’s energy
