Gary Numan Ruin still

Gary Numan: My Name Is Ruin

As a child of the 80s, Gary Numan’s song Cars was a key part of my musical journey.

Well, for some reason, YouTube’s algorithm opted to feed me a relatively recent song of his (from 2017) “My Name Is Ruin”. Man, this song speaks loudly to my cyberpunk/dystopian aesthetic. It’s been on loop for me for over a week (I expect it’ll show up in my Spotify 2026 recap).

As far as the whole cyberpunk thing goes, the video has a more dystopian vibe. I don’t know if it’s more Mad Max or Dune, but you get the idea. Anyway, the main thing rattling in my mind after watching this: what the heck is Mr. Numan wearing?

So, to Google I went. And I was NOT disappointed! The answer is “Demobaza“! As someone remarkably disconnected from high fashion, it shouldn’t surprise you that I knew nothing about them. Anyway, they have a blog post dedicated to this video, which I found cool. And here’s their page about this specific collection. I am not sure if you can buy this, assuming you can afford this kind of fashion. But, really, it’s fun! Maybe this can be my version of cosplay at the next Comic-Con.
